USC UPSTATE STUDENTS HIT GERMANY!

Very few students get or take the opportunity to study abroad.  It really takes a special student to chose to spend their hard earned money (or their parents’ hard earned money) on a study trip to another country.  7 such students from USC Upstate have chosen to experience what so many don’t—a month long study abroad trip to Magdeburg Germany (from June 9- July 3).

The following will be blog entries by each of the individual students studying in Magdeburg.  They will be telling you about their study abroad experience:  the different cities we visit, the experience of living in another country, personal tales, triumphs, hardships and basically anything they wish.

We hope you enjoy what these 7 very brave and excited students have to say.  But first let me introduced them.

This is KYLE:

Kyle is a member of the USC Upstate Track and Field team.  He likes to argue with me about the validity of the assignments I give him.  But he’s ultiimately a team player who is game for anything.  He was so excited when we arrived in Berlin that he only slept 4 hours in three days.

This is JENNIFER:

Jennifer has been to Germany before.  Her friends in Berlin invited us over to celebrate her birthday with them.  It was a wonderful experience.  Jennifer’s German accent is the bomb.

This is DAWN

Magdeburg 2009 287

Dawn seems quiet, but she’s not.  She’s very good at German and has been practicing it quite a bit since she’s been here.  She used to sell pretzels in the mall, which for some reason fascinates me.

This is ANDREW:

Andrew’s all about cars.  Mostly Porsches.  Ironically he fell asleep during the VW factory tour.  But so did I.  The car they drove us around in was extremely soothing.

This is AMBER:

Check out the pose!  Amber has 5 different versions of this same outfit.  Pink and black and stripes.  While possibly the most inexperienced of the German students as far as language is concerned, I totally heard her work a problem out  with the director of the youth hostel in German.  Go Amber!

This is EMILY:

I’m completely convinced that Emily’s interest in German began with KMFDM and Rammstein.  She’s a quiet one, but I’m sure if I got her in some German industrial music club her head would spin around and she’d start spitting fire.

This is KEL:

Kel has a totally infectious laugh.  And she’s game for anything.  Any new experience she’s up for it.  But she wants to know how long it’s going to take to get there, which streets to turn on, how long it’s going to last and what the wind speed and humidity will be once you get there.

And finally this is ME:

For the life of me, I cannot fathom why all these parents have trusted me with their children.

So enough from me.  Let’s hear from the students.  We hope you enjoy…
